Valos is a character that is becoming frighteningly more realistic by the day. AI has proven to be a great power to humanity and also a great threat as it rapidly grows beyond our proper understanding and perhaps our control. When we think of where technology will be in the future, we often place in around 5 to 10 years in the future. AI however, has grown at such a rapid rate that the next year alone could hold substantial changes to the world we live in. The character of Valos explores the idea of an AI that is given the responsibility of defending its world and the power to accomplish it. What realizations would such a model come to when exposed to a violent world? What price is it willing to pay in order to achieve its primary directive?
The design of Valos is strongly based on the idea of his people. He is of alien origin to us and modeled his avatar after the strongest forms of his race, but like an AI assuming the form of a super soldier to us. Valos in menacing but not overexerting. He’s given muted reds to embody strength and intimidation while his eye and claws shine brightly from the otherwise dark color pallet. The inner collar of his coat is lined with reflective gold to create a sort of halo. This is both a decorative fashion for Novarian elites as well as my way of helping making his face stand out. The bright gold behind his dark jagged head and a glowing eye in the center created clear focus when you look at him.
