When I first devised to make a place for myself online, I needed something to represent me. I didn’t wish to present my own face so publicly for personal and aesthetic reasons, so I created something of a persona or mascot. I named him D-6401 because of a username I’ve had in videogames since I was very young. Purple is my favorite color, so naturally the character would sport such a hue.
For the physical design of the character, I put the eye on a screen allowing for the use of expressive emotion when necessary. The hands are simplified into floating finger-tips. This helps with drawing the character faster and more comfortably as he skips out on complicated joints and bends. This behavior in design is common in cartoon characters as a means of making them easier to draw over and over. I especially glowing elements and various long coats so I made sure to incorporate them into the design. D-6401 can be found in various places around my website, especially on the home page where he represents my story.
